"We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down."
- Kurt Vonnegut
After earning a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph, Emily entered the Human Resources field to explore her passion for people and leadership. As a leader, Emily was able to coach, train and mentor her team members to exceed department and company objectives.
As an HR professional, Emily has worked with small and large organizations in various stages of their business cycle. Prior to founding East Oak Consulting, Emily was a proven HR leader at the Outland Group based in Toronto, Ontario. Leading Outland's HR and Safety department in areas such as policy development, talent acquisition, performance management, learning and development and career, succession planning, incident report and WSIB compliance were just a few of Emily's portfolio responsibilities. In this role, Emily successfully established and grew the human resources department during periods of exponential growth.
Throughout the years, company HR initiatives have become robotic and impersonal, leading to high turnover rates, low productivity and poor performance. Emily believes people are a companies most valuable asset, and in order to remain competitive, top talent must be engaged and supported by a personable HR team.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys trailblazing with her family and three Australian Shepherds.
